Despite it being the tenth anniversary of his first ever win in Formula 1, Kimi Raikkonen isn’t overly fazed about the occasion and instead is focussed on scoring more points for Lotus this weekend.
In his second year at McLaren at the time, Raikkonen stormed to his first ever Grand Prix win in 2003 at Sepang and would kick start a year that saw him narrowly miss out on his first World Championship to Michael Schumacher. Despite the race holding special memories for him, it’s not something that he has time to recollect on as he looks for back to back wins.
“Of course it was nice to win the first race but we really should have won the year before, so it’s nice to come back here,” he told us during the official Thursday FIA Press Conference on Thursday.
“I don’t enjoy the heat and the humidity of the place but the circuit is nice so, we know how it’s going to be more or less here. It usually gives a good race and that’s the main thing. Hopefully we can have another good weekend and score good points.”
Despite what Kimi says, we think a victory at Sepang would not only bring out the celebration within him, it would call for a couple of extra vodkas Sunday night as well!
